Horsemanship Clinics

Horsemanship, not Forcemanship.

Horsemanship is the art and science of being with, handling, training and riding horses with an understanding of how the horse sees the world. In this way, horsemanship is very much a mindfulness practice. As equestrians it is important to approach the horse in a way that he/she understands, this might mean we have to change our approach in communicating with our horse, especially when problems arise.

During this clinic, master instructor/clinician, Jim McDonald will work with participants either under saddle or on the ground to address any problem areas that are impacting your relationship with your horse and show you techniques that you can use to change your approach and build a stronger bond with your horse.

Do you have trouble loading your horse onto a trailer?

Do you have trouble getting your horse to stand still for mounting?

Is your horse nippy or frequently known to bite?

Is your horse spooky or fearful?

Does your horse resist contact in the bridle?

Does your horse run from you in the field?

All of the above situations, and many more, can be addressed by implementing mindful horsemanship practices.

If you are unsure how to approach communication barriers between you and your horse, and want to improve your relationship and address problem areas, then this horsemanship clinic is for you.

Jim McDonald is a life-long horse enthusiast, AQHA Professional Horseman, and CHA Master Instructor and clinician who is highly respected in the equine community for his expertise in horse behavior and learning theory. His unique approach to training both horses and humans applies horse-centric principles to help students and clients build trusting relationships, overcome challenges, and reach their goals. Jim’s approach to horsemanship is based on instinctive equine behavior and learning theory. Today, he helps students ranging from brand-new riders to competitive athletes apply those principles to improve their horsemanship and equine enjoyment.

“Know exactly what you want from your horse. Know precisely what you want down to which foot is to move, where it is to move and how many times. When you know that, ask him for what you want and start soft but gradually increase the pressure until he gives you the response that you want. As soon as he starts to give you what you want just stop.”
-Jim McDonald
